David was born in North Carolina in 1778. He grew up in Craven County and as a young men came to Beauford District, South Carolina with his brother Fisher where he married Martha Heard. In the winter of 1819 - 1820 David Gaskins and family moved from Beauford District, South Carolina to Telfair County, Georgia where his brother Fisher had already moved. He settled on the south side of the Ocmulgee River in territory now Coffee County. Sometime later he acquired lands in the 6th district of Coffee Co. and moved there ( now in Atkinson Co. ) , and bought lands and cleared up a farm. He died in October 1866 and was burried at Antioch Baptist Church near his home. Record is found in Coffee Co. of the following : Bill of Sale from David Gaskins to his daughter, Mrs. Fannie Lott, Sept.13, 1861, for one negro slave girl ( Deed Book "A" , page 452 ) ; same date Bill of Sale to his daughter Mrs. Charlotte Harper, for one negro slave girl ( Deed Book "A", page 453 ); also , deed dated October 5, 1869, from the heirs of David Gaskins to Henry Vickers for half of lot of land No. 81, 6th district ( Deed Book "B" , page 53 ). Deed signed by Henry Peterson and Godwin Solomon on behalf of their respective wifes , Arther Lott ( heir of deceased daughter Holland ), Mrs. Fannie Lott, John Gaskins and Mary Gaskins ( widow of James ).

1804-1805 Witnessed John Gaskins Will along with Mary Gaskins and James Askins.
